Our society is diverse and multilingual. A significant proportion of the population does not have a Swiss passport, and many of these people have grown up bilingual or are learning one of the national languages as a second language. The library as a public institution has an important role to play here.

In 2004, Baobab Books therefore launched a project initiative called Mondomedia – Open Libraries. With courses, materials and advisory services, the project team under the leadership of Baobab Books has promoted expertise in intercultural libraries in Switzerland for almost twenty years and sensitised librarians to this important task.

As of 1 April 2023, Baobab Books has now handed over the project to Interbiblio. The association is the Swiss competence centre for intercultural library work. The Mondomedia project is ideally embedded here and we are pleased that the work will be continued under this new umbrella.
